Rio de Janeiro, September 5, 2024 – After hosting the first Rock in Rio 5G two years ago, TIM – the leader in fifth-generation technology in the country – is ready to deliver an even more connected edition in the coming weeks. With the expectation that 50% of data traffic will pass through this network, the operator has invested heavily in expanding and modernizing its infrastructure. The number of 5G antennas has more than tripled compared to 2022 – going from 25 to 86 – and new technologies have been introduced that will significantly increase capacity and efficiency, enhancing the customer experience.

Among the new features, the use of dual 5G antennas, which are the first in Brazil, stands out. These will be installed inside totems bearing the event's visual identity. This cutting-edge technology is capable of operating simultaneously at 3.5 GHz and 2.3 GHz frequencies, providing a 50% increase in data transmission capacity and 30% in coverage.

“The introduction of this dual antenna is a milestone for TIM and is part of our future strategy for expanding the 5G network in Brazil. We are investing in the most modern connection technology to offer the best experience for our customers at Rock in Rio Brazil 2024. And also to enable surprising activations that will impact the public and demonstrate the full power of the fifth generation network,” says Marco Di Costanzo, CTO of TIM.

The executive recalls that, in the 2022 edition, TIM recorded a total traffic of 133 terabytes during the seven days of the festival – the equivalent of watching videos online for more than 45 years. Around 20% of this total went through the 5G network: “it was already double what we expected at the time, because the new technology had arrived in Rio de Janeiro weeks before the event.

Now, we are ready to increase these numbers even further, with a robust, innovative network prepared to meet the growing demand for data traffic", he concludes.

In addition to allowing users to communicate efficiently, this infrastructure will enable innovative activations, such as 5G Karaoke, with a connected band and holography.

In two booths at Cidade do Rock and one at the TIM store in a shopping mall in Barra da Tijuca, amateur talents will take the microphone and appear as holograms alongside the musicians who will be at a distance, at the company's booth at the festival. Thanks to the low latency of 5G, perfect synchronization between voice and melody is guaranteed, eliminating the typical “delay” of live broadcasts. The company is also sponsoring one of the most extreme attractions at the festival's amusement park: Mega Download, a 30-meter-high tower that can reach up to 50 km/h, alluding to the super speed of the operator's 5G.
