Toachi Pilatón Hydroelectric Plant: Noboa's government activates unit 3 of the Alluriquín plant after a decade of inactivity

The following is a machine translation of a Ministry of Energy and Mines release

On Monday, December 16, unit 3 (68 megawatts) of the Alluriquín hydroelectric plant, which is part of the new Toachi Pilatón hydroelectric complex, was connected to the country's electrical grid or National Interconnected System – SNI.

The synchronization consisted of matching the parameters of the electric generator with those of the SNI. These are: voltage, frequency, phase angle, phase sequence and waveform. After the synchronization of the first unit, this plant began delivering 68 megawatts. The process will continue over the next few days until achieving stability and reliability in its operation, said Vice Minister Fabián Calero.

In her speech, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Inés Manzano, commented that “the Alluriquín power plant is not just infrastructure, it is a promise fulfilled for future generations.” She highlighted the decision of the Government of Nuevo Ecuador to normalize the electric service through efficient management. She indicated that the two remaining units will be synchronized in the coming weeks, which will add 204 MW.

For his part, the general manager of CELEC EP, Gustavo Sánchez, highlighted the commitment of the National Government to ensure that the electricity generation projects, which had been paralyzed, are completed and made available to Ecuadorians.

Toachi Pilatón, of 254.4 MW, is one of the generation projects that were paralyzed, but by decision of President Daniel Noboa, its completion and operation is accelerated to add more electric energy for Ecuadorians.
