Transelectric awards 3 civil works contracts

Ecuador's state transmission company Transelectric has awarded three civil works contracts as part of the construction of a 230kV transmission line linking the southern province of Machala to the Peruvian border, newspaper Expreso reported. The company awarded one contract to a consortium of construction and engineering companies Cointec and Semaica for the first stretch of the line, and two contracts to construction company Patridasa for the remaining two sections, the paper said. The line forms part of a US$139mn, 146km interconnection project between Peru and Ecuador, which is due to start operations by September 2004.
