TransMin 2005 budget could reach US$2bn

Brazil's transport ministry budget next year could reach 6bn reais (US$2bn), ministry and lower house releases quoted minister Alfredo Nascimento as saying. Nascimento, speaking before the lower house's agriculture, livestock, supply and rural development committee, said a budget proposal for 3.5bn reais will be sent to the executive by August 31, while the other 2.5mn reais would come from a supplementary budget allocation. Most of the funds will go to highway recovery, he said, adding that today, 80% of the ministry's budget goes to highway works. The ministry's budget this year is some 2.3bn reais.
