Trinidad opens nominations for onshore round

Trinidad and Tobago’s energy ministry has begun to accept acreage nominations for the 2021 onshore competitive bid round.

The available blocks are Aripero, Buenos Ayres, Charuma A, Charuma B, Cory D, Cory F, Guayaguayare, South West Peninsula, South West Peninsula-Erin Bay, South West Peninsula-Islote Bay and Tulsa. The nomination period runs through November 5.

The nominations are held confidentially and bestow no rights or obligations on either the ministry of the company nominating the block(s), according to information available here that includes a map of the acreage.

In June, minister Stuart Young announced plans to launch the upstream hydrocarbons process.

Ministry data shows that of the 58,972b/d of oil and condensate produced in the first five months of 2021, 30% was onshore output.

In recent days, Touchstone Exploration reported that an exploration well encountered “substantial” hydrocarbon accumulations at the Ortoire onshore block.
