Trump talked to Bolsonaro about Huawei, says Brazil VP

US President Donald Trump “warned” his Brazilian counterpart Jair Bolsonaro about Chinese telecom supplier Huawei, but there has been no pressure for Brazil to ban the Chinese equipment supplier, according to Brazil's vice president Hamilton Mourão.

In an interview with Brazilian paper Valor, Mourão ruled out the possibility of a Huawei ban by Brazil, but said that the topic was addressed during Bolsonaro’s meeting with Trump in March.

Mourão, who just returned from a trip to China, said he himself talked to Huawei chairman Meng Wanzhou during his visit to China, recommending that Huawei create an “environment of trust,” so that "no country that receives the company or its technology will be concerned that all the data in the company’s hands also belongs to the [Chinese] government,” Mourão was quoted as saying.

Mourão said the he does not have any evidence to confirm that Huawei spies for the Chinese government through its equipment.

GOOGLE PRESIDENT

At a Google event in Brazil this Thursday, the company’s Brazil CEO Fábio Coelho was asked about the end of Android’s support for Huawei devices in the wake of the US ban.

Coelho stressed the company had no choice but to comply with the US ruling, but suggested that Huawei’s technologies do violate privacy policies.
