Tweaks to Puerto Rico solar PPAs under review

Puerto Rico’s energy regulator PREB received petitions from state power utility PREPA to amend power purchase agreements (PPA) signed with two solar companies.

The proposed changes are for a 45MW plant owned by Oriana Energy and a 10MW plant managed by Horizon Energy.

The modifications would push back to June 30, 2024, the deadline for the operators to exercise options to expand the plants’ capacity to 60MW in the case of Oriana and to 20MW for Horizon.

PREPA highlights that the extension would give additional time for the companies to evaluate financial alternatives for the expansions.

Bahamas’ energy ministry launched bidding to develop 25MW of solar microgrid capacity across the Family Islands.

The deadline to submit proposals is January 26, according to procurement information.

The Dominican Republic’s energy and mines ministry and the country’s national cybersecurity center signed a cooperation agreement to boost protection of the power sector.

For its part, Fitch Ratings revised to positive from stable the outlook on the ‘BB-’ foreign and local currency long-term issuer default ratings of power generator EGE Haina.

“The positive outlook reflects Fitch's revision of the outlook on the Dominican Republic's sovereign rating,” the ratings agency said.

Fitch also maintained the company’s US$300mn senior unsecured notes at 'BB-'.
