On Thursday, May 16, at 6 p.m. and via Zoom, the Faculty of Engineering and Sciences of the Adolfo Ibáñez University will teach the free access master class on the skills necessary to meet their demands and demands.

The meeting seeks to discover how the power of the electricity market impacts the design of wholesale energy markets and its effect on consumers.

The talk will feature the participation of Silvio Binato, Senior PSR Consultant at Energy Consulting and Analytics, and Juan Ricardo Inostroza, Academic Director of the Electricity Market Course: Strategic training, portfolio and trading, at UAI.

"In the wholesale electricity markets, all the energy produced is traded through short-term transactions in the spot market and long-term through supply contracts with distribution companies that in turn sell the energy to final residential consumers and to final customers. Their design is very important, because it aims for energy to be produced efficiently, using the cheapest and least polluting technologies, and for there to be the highest degree of competition possible," says Juan Ricardo Inostroza.

Silvio Binato, speaker in charge of the master class, is responsible for methodologies and software for SDDP, OptGen and ePSR. He has master's degrees in energy efficiency and in systems and computer engineering. He has participated in expansion planning studies in Latin America and Europe, and is the author or co-author of 25 articles in specialized journals and international conference proceedings.

The talk will explain the different market designs, identifying which ones have less chance of suppliers exercising market power and reducing competition, and which ones do not.
