UK group builds up Peru power asset portfolio
Peru’s energy and mines ministry granted ATN a definitive concession for a power transmission project in the southern region of Arequipa.
The planned infrastructure is 220kV line Solimana-Ocoña which will stretch 31km across the districts of Ocoña and Mariano Nicolás Valcárcel in Camaná province, and cost US$32mn.
The work includes the construction of the Solimana substation and the expansion of the Ocoña substation, the former of which would neighbor proposed solar park Solimana.
The ministry’s power director is now authorized to sign the concession contract with ATN, which already operates 379 miles of lines and is controlled by London-based Atlantica Sustainable Infrastructure.
Atlantica’s Peru holdings include power transmission operators ATN 2 (81 miles) and ATS (569 miles), and a 4MW hydro plant.
In a related development, ElectroDunas submitted a semidetailed environmental impact study to the ministry for the 220/60/10kV, 120MVA El Angel substation and 21.6km, 220kV transmission line Independencia-El Angel in Ica region.
Energy and mining investment regulator Osinergmin approved the US$14.6mn, 14-month project in 2020 as part of the 2021-25 investment plan.
