Uncertainty surrounds Haiti runoff
Haiti's senate has voted to recommend that the nation's electoral body, CEP, postpone the runoff presidential election scheduled for Sunday, but it was unclear whether the vote would be put off.
Election officials can choose to ignore the resolution and move forward with the vote as planned, the AP is reporting.
Citing irregularities in last October's general elections, opposition candidate Jude Célestin announced he would not participate in Sunday's runoff, claiming that election officials had favored ruling party candidate Jovenel Moïse.
Moïse prevailed in the first round with 32.8% of votes to Célestin's 25%, but an exit poll cast doubt on the official results.
Election officials have said Célestin's photo and name will still appear on the ballot, as a formal withdraw has not been submitted, the AP said.
