Uruguay to invest nearly US$900mn in roadworks this year
Uruguay’s public works ministry (MTOP) plans to invest US$869mn in roadworks this year, up from US$517mn in 2021, with US$429mn being allocated to concessions, PPPs and rehabilitation and maintenance contracts, dubbed CREMA.
As for the rest of the funds, US$163mn will be for public works contracts, US$145mn for maintenance works, US$70mn for bridges, US$37mn for departmental roads and US$31mn for road safety, President Luis Lacalle Pou said during his annual address before congress (in photo).
Lacalle added that state water utility OSE will invest US$71mn this year, in line with the 2021 figure, and that a tender for a new potable water plant for the Arazati area of Montevideo (US$250mn) will take place during the second half of this year.
He also said that a waste-to-fuel energy project is being discussed with the governments of Montevideo and Canelones.
