Uruguay's OSE to finish second phase of waterworks program with CAF loan

Uruguay's state water utility OSE will perform work on the second stage of a program to rehabilitate and improve the country's potable water and sanitation systems, after getting a US$30mn loan from Latin American development bank CAF.

According to a statement from the Uruguayan presidency, the loan was signed by OSE, CAF, and the local economy ministry.

This stage entails the development of infrastructure to reinforce reliability of potable water systems, and expand coverage as well. Work on this front will include a new withdrawal unit at the Corrientes water treatment plant and potable water networks in the Paysandú and Young municipalities of the Río Negro department, and also at the resort area of Costa de Oro at the Canelones department.

On the sanitization front, the program will expand sewer service coverage and it will install new wastewater treatment plants at the Salto and Treinta y Tres departments.

OSE head Milton Machado thanked the other groups for their role in the agreement, highlighting that it was signed in a relatively short period of time.

"This is the product of everyone's work, which made it possible to adapt financing to the reality of the company in order to keep executing the investment plan that was scheduled", he said on the release.
