US authorizes construction of 3 Mexican border projects

US President Joe Biden has given the green light for the construction of three border infrastructure projects that will be built in coordination with Mexican authorities.

The authorization for the initiatives, which will be located at border crossings between Texas and Mexico's Tamaulipas and Coahuila states, was notified to Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

AMLO published the letter he received from the US government during his morning press conference. The missive states that the intention is to improve trade between the two nations.

The first project involves widening the World Trade Nuevo Laredo III and IV border crossing that joins Laredo in Texas, where 40% of the goods traded between Mexico and the US pass.

Authorities from the two countries held a meeting some weeks ago to plan and analyze the details of the border infrastructure, according to daily Milenio.

The second project entails construction of the Flor de Mayo bridge between Matamoros in Tamapulipas state and the US city of Brownsville.

The third crossing will be the Puerto Verde bridge, which will connect Piedras Negras in Coahuila with Eagle Pass in the US.

The date for the start of construction works will be decided in the coming days.
