US$140mn Argentine aqueduct moves on to final stage
Construction of the Desvío Arijón-Rafaela aqueduct in Argentina’s Santa Fe province is moving into the final stage following a 14bn-peso (US$140mn) investment.
The overall project was divided into two stages, with the first being completed in 2018. it entails the installation of nearly 130km of pipelines, the expansion of a potable water plant in the town of Desvío Arijón and installation of five pumping stations.
“At the current rate, we will begin the first test runs between March and April,” local public services secretary Carlos Maina said in a provincial government release.
The new system is expected to benefit 142,000 residents of Matilde, San Carlos Norte, San Carlos Centro, San Carlos Sud, Santa Clara de Buena Vista, San Mariano, Sa Pereira, Angélica, Susana and Rafaela.
Last month, Maina said that the project was almost completely halted in 2019 as contractors had problems with purchasing supplies abroad due to price volatilty.
