US$1bn water projects advance in Panama
The 11 national strategic projects, requiring a US$1bn investment, of Panama's water and sewerage utility IDAAN are reportedly progressing on schedule.
Among the works are building and expanding potable water treatment plants and new sewerage systems, IDAAN said in a release.
One project is the José "Pepe" Fierro potable water treatment plant in the Gamboa sector of Panamá province. Works started in April last year and have reached 20% progress.
Construction on the US$212mn Ingeniero José G. Rodríguez potable water plant in the Howard sector of Arraiján district, Panamá Oeste province, are also progressing.
Other projects include the US$175mn expansion and rehabilitation of potable water plants Villa Darién, Sabanitas, and Federico Guardia Conte.
Wastewater collection and treatment systems are being built in the cities of Almirante, Changuinola, Santiago, Contadora and Chiriquí. The largest treatment system is being carried out in Chiriquí capital David. French water solutions firm Suez is currently the only company completing the US$297mn project.
