US$25mn project surfaces amid Guyana’s energy logistics ramp-up
Diamond Shorebase (DSB) has submitted a US$25mn oil and gas port development project to Guyana’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The infrastructure would be built in the area of Plantation Friendship on the east bank of the Demerara River and serve as a staging facility for platform supply vessels.
Components include a covered berthing area for three vessels and a heavy lift dock, according to project information prepared by CASE International. Construction would take 16 months.
In a screening decision, the EPA concluded “that this is projected to have low to medium significant environmental impacts that would occur due to the project’s size and characteristics. However, these impacts are expected to be mostly short-term, and localized.”
For its part, Machinery Real Estate & Integrated Services seeks EPA approval for the MACORP wharf project in Providence, East Bank Demerara, that will be used to load and offload heavy-duty equipment, among other equipment and materials.
And Atlantic Fuels is looking to secure the environmental go-ahead to operate a bulk fuel depot, also at Plantation Friendship.
In recent weeks, Houston-based oil and gas services provider NOV opened an office in the country.
