US$500mn DomRep gas to power project back in the game
The Dominican Republic’s power regulator SIE has accepted a request from Energía 2000 to modify the legal technical report for the US$506mn Manzanillo Power Land natural gas to power project.
"The arguments and reasons presented by the applicant have sufficient factual and legal backing to justify the request for modification,” said the watchdog, which highlighted the existence of new elements that affect the viability of the project.
BNamericas previously reported that the national energy commission CNE had denied Energía 2000’s definitive concession request due to alleged technical shortfalls.
The combined cycle plant would boast 360MW +/- 15% (414MW net) and 432MW nominal and is planned for Manzanillo in the northern coastal province of Montecristi.
The project includes a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU), a monobuoy to connect the FSRU with a gas pipeline, a substation, and a transmission line, according to the new legal technical report, available here.

Meanwhile, the CNE authorized G. Enit to conduct studies for Renewable Energy World Dominicus’ 50MW solar project in La Romana province, and recommended that the executive branch grant a definitive concession to Transcontinental Capital (Seaboard) for the 150MW Estrella del Mar III combined cycle project.
