USAID inks MOU with British foundation for Rose Town development

The US Agency for International Development ( USAID) has signed an MOU with the UK-based Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment to improve sanitation and create economic ventures in a sector of Jamaican capital Kingston. Under the agreement, USAID will provide an initial donation of US$1mn, state news agency JIS reported. The three-year project aims to create economic opportunities in Rose Town through micro and community enterprises, as well as making concrete investments in the infrastructure that the community needs to increase economic development and generate decent living conditions, according to according to USAID's Jamaica mission director, Karen Hilliard. Projects include providing Rose Town with sustainable and formal access to water and sanitation, in addition to setting up small, micro and medium-sized enterprises in the area, which has some 5,000 residents. Founded 25 years ago by Britain's Prince Charles, the Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment aims to ensure that the design and build of homes, workplaces and communities are raised to levels of excellence in terms of sustainability and local environmental factors and economies.
