Usiminas changes date for earnings release

Brazilian steelmaker Usiminas will release its first quarter earnings results on May 11, a change from the previously announced date of May 16, the company said in a statement. Earnings results will be released before trading begins on São Paulo's Bovespa stock exchange. The company will also hold a conference call to discuss the results on May 12. Belo Horizonte-based Usiminas posted net profits of 3.02bn reais (US$1.21bn) in 2004, an increase of 121% over 2003's results. The company produced 8.9Mt of crude steel in 2004. Usiminas and flat-steel subsidiary Cosipa, which was consolidated in March, have annual installed capacity of 9.5Mt.
