Venezuela's VNET, Liberty Networks ink Arcos cable deal

Venezuelan telecoms operator VNET Telecomunicaciones signed an agreement with Liberty Networks to rely on the latter’s Arcos-1 submarine system and enhance its fiber network connectivity.

The agreement was inked during the Fitelven telecoms event, held in Caracas September 27-30, but announced by Liberty Networks only on October 4 in a social media post. Commercial and contractual details were not provided.

Liberty’s Arcos-1 is a submarine fiber ring launched in 2001, connecting the north of South America, with Central America, Mexico, Florida and and the Caribbean islands.

One of the 8,600km system’s 24 landing points in Punto Fijo, Venezuela.

Overall, Liberty owns or co-owns 50,000km of submarine fiber and 17,000km of terrestrial links across 40 countries and territories throughout the Americas.

Founded 12 years ago, Caracas-headquartered VNET provides fiber broadband and data transport services in 23 municipalities in the states of Mérida, Táchira, Zulia, Trujillo, Lara, Carabobo, Bolívar, Monagas, Anzoátegui and Distrito Capital.
