Veracruz port to conclude 3 terminals as planned

Veracruz port in Mexico will start operations of three terminals for a combined $4.8bn pesos (US$194mn) as planned in June.

Miguel Ángel Yáñez Monroy, director of port authority API, told a local broadcaster that the coronavirus emergency has not impacted progress at these and other terminals.

Grupo Gramosa’s specialized agricultural-bulk terminal, Grupo Logra’s mineral terminal and Empresa IEnova’s specialized fluids terminal are being built by private companies, according to the 2020-24 national infrastructure program (PNI) that was presented in November. Works started in late 2019.

Under the PNI, the government and the private sector agreed to build another multimodal terminal for 5.7bn pesos.

Works for the El Dorado terminal started in 2020, according to the program, while works for another 2.2bn-peso terminal are scheduled to begin in 2021.

API is also working on publicly financed expansion projects for 1bn pesos, according to the port’s 2020 investment program.

Among these expansions counts a 100mn-peso customs port, for which the second stage will start soon, Yáñez said.
