Viapar refutes Parana hwy. investment figures

Brazilian highway concessionaire Viapar, which operates 547km in Parana state, invested 168mn reais (US$57.2mn) between 1998 and this year, it said in a statement. The investment represents 53.8% of revenue for the period, according to Viapar, dismissing news from Parana's state government that only 20% of highway concessionaires' revenue was put back into the highways. Viapar was awarded a 24-year concession in 1997 to operate 547km of roads in Parana, and its investment pledge over the length of the contract is 618mn reais. Construtora Cowan Ltda., Queiroz Galvao Particip.-Concessoes S.A., Strata Const. e Conces. Integradas S.A., Carioca Christiani-Nielsen Engenharia S.A. and Camargo Campos S.A. Eng. e Comercio make up Viapar.
