Wärtsilä, a leading provider of flexible power plants for the decentralized power generation market, signed a contract to carry out major maintenance with UTE –Administración Nacional de Centrales Eléctricas y Transmisiones Eléctricas. It is the state electric power company of Uruguay, which controls the transmission and distribution of electric power in the country. UTE is also the majority generator in quantity of energy, units and installed power.
The contract was signed in October of this year, and for a period of 3 years. Through this new agreement, Wärtsilä recovers a client without a contract, assisting UTE in the new dispatch profile of the plant. The power plant has a total of 7 Wärtsilä 12V46 C2 engines, fueled by fuel oil, with a combined power of approximately 70 MW.
Wärtsilä Uruguay advises the main electricity company in Uruguay providing assistance in the life cycle of the José Batlle y Ordóñez Power Plant – located in Montevideo, performing a complete maintenance service, which includes labor, logistics, planning and delivery of spare parts In place. Together with the rest of the generation plants, UTE's Central Batlle plant supplies electricity to a large number of clients in Uruguay and abroad when said energy is used for export. The Wärtsilä thermal power plant is used both as a backup when the network requires it or to cover demand peaks.
Through this agreement, UTE will benefit from Wärtsilä's experience as an experienced OEM supplier and the skills of its specialized technicians. Manufactured with the highest technology, Wärtsilä engines are recognized in the market for their low maintenance cost and their wide operating flexibility.
“The client seeks to keep their engines running in optimal conditions, following a planned maintenance schedule and being able to dispatch in reliable conditions. All this to respond to the demand for energy, both nationally and internationally, with financial predictability and Overhaul's duration guarantee”, says Javier Ricciarelli, Managing Director of Wärtsilä Uruguay.
Wärtsilä's scope in this new contract includes guaranteed Major Maintenance: planning, logistics, complete labor, and spare parts delivered on site, for the execution of Overhauls greater than 24k, 36k and 24k+36k hybrids.
