Stericycle to launch waste-to-energy project in Chile
Chilean solid waste concessionaire Stericycle will begin in late-December or early-January a waste-to-energy project at the El Molle landfill, serving various communities in the central Valparaíso region (V).
The project utilizes anaerobic digestion technologies and will enable generation of up to 4.5MW, said Valparaíso mayor Jorge Castro, as reported by local news outlet El Martutino.
The required investment is US$7mn, and the project will be the first of its kind in the region, said Stericycle general manager Esteban Alvez.
El Molle also processes recyclables.
Stericycle Chile, a subsidiary of US-based Stericycle, collects and disposes of waste generated in urban areas, as well as from the health, maritime, industrial and mining sectors among others.
