Thursday, February 6, 2025. The Chamber of Infocommunication and Technology (Infocom) joins the concern expressed by other business groups, such as the Union of Chambers (UCCAEP), regarding the escalation of violence experienced by some areas of the country, specifically the province of Limón.
Telecommunications operators represented by Infocom are warning about the impossibility of entering certain communities to carry out repairs or improvements to the networks that provide mobile phone, residential internet and television services, which degrades these services for the people of Limón.
Our members are experiencing an unprecedented situation in Limón, which has resulted in a reduction in the expansion of networks to bring connectivity to the province, as well as disruption to maintenance work in areas such as Guápiles and Siquirres. In addition, they report that commercial premises have been the target of robberies in recent months.
“The telecommunications industry and the rest of the productive sectors need a safe environment for their optimal development. It is regrettable and unfair that violence prevents connectivity services from being brought to regions that so need them to have better opportunities,” said Mario Montero, president of Infocom.
Montero added that “our chamber joins UCCAEP's call to provide a firm, effective and articulated response to the increase in violence that Costa Rica is experiencing, and to work on strengthening security and social peace.”
