Mexico City, March 7, 2025.- The mining-metallurgical industry is making steady progress in the inclusion of women, reaching 17.9% of the total number of jobs in the sector in Mexico, which means an 84% growth from 2012 to date.

Currently, 74,529 women are part of the workforce in the Mexican mining sector, according to the Mexican Social Security Institute ( IMSS ), which reflects the progress that has been made in terms of labor inclusion, especially because the mines are usually located in remote and difficult-to-access places.

The president of the Association of Mining Engineers, Metallurgists and Geologists of Mexico (AIMMGM), Rubén del Pozo Mendoza, considered it necessary to maintain the commitment to gender equality and labor inclusion as a strategy to achieve a more equal and fair future, but also for business reasons since companies that promote gender equality tend to be more productive.

She stressed that AIMMGM encourages and promotes the participation of the female sector. Currently, she explained, Mariel Márquez Gutiérrez serves as regional coordinator on the National Board of Directors, and Alba Elena Pérez Rodríguez and Lourdes González serve as presidents of the Pachuca District and Baja California Sur.

Furthermore, the majority participation of women in the operational and administrative areas of AIMMGM is strengthened, including with the constant action, in favor of the communities, of the Ladies Committee currently headed by Mrs. María Reyes Palomo with nine female members of the General Steering Committee.

The national leader of more than 3,800 professionals and technicians linked to the mining industry in Mexico pledged to continue working, in collaboration with the rest of the organizations related to the sector, to continue generating actions that promote and strengthen the participation of women within the sector.
