Work begins on 5G project New Road Network for Valle del Cauca, Cali-Palmira Accesses

With the start of the construction phase of the Fifth Generation (5G) New Road Network of Valle del Cauca project, Cali-Palmira Accesses, offered under concession by the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), the national government marks an important milestone in the transportation infrastructure for this region of the country.

“It is important to note that the New Road Network of Valle de Cauca - Cali-Palmira Accesses, includes the construction, improvement and rehabilitation of 310 km of the roads that connect Cali, Yumbo, Mediacanoa and Buga, Palmira, Candelaria in Valle del Cauca. Cauca, with Villarica, Puerto Tejada and Santander de Quilichao, in Cauca.

Construction therefore begins with the intervention of Functional Units 1, 2, 3 and 5, with preliminary activities such as relocation of networks, demolitions, installation of camps, and topographical surveys.

In UF1 (Yumbo – Mediacanoa and Palmira-Buga), the rehabilitation activities of the Providencia Intersection, El Cerrito – Buga Intersection, and the Mulaló – La Torre sector will begin, as well as the improvement of the Palmira – Candelaria exit with activities of earthworks, stripping and drainage works.

For its part, in UF3 (Avenida Bicentenario), the construction of Avenida Bicentenario will begin with grading, stripping and drainage works.

In UF5 (Cali-Yumbo), rehabilitation and improvement will also begin in the Sameco – Glorieta Cencar sector. And from the Cencar Glorieta to the Américas Glorieta, the construction of the second carriageway will begin with the grading, stripping and drainage works activities.

The New Road Network for the Valle del Cauca- Cali Palmira Access project foresees the generation of 40,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs.

With this initiative, it is estimated that around 3,300,000 inhabitants of 12 municipalities in Valle del Cauca will benefit, including: Buga, Candelaria, El Cerrito, Florida, Guacarí, Ginebra, Jamundí, Palmira, Vijes, Yotoco, Yumbo and Cali, as well as five municipalities of Cauca: Caloto, Miranda, Puerto Tejada, Santander de Quilichao and Villarica. The project includes the construction of 15.8 km of new road and the construction of 12.6 km of new second carriageway, as well as the fine-tuning and rehabilitation of 287 km of existing corridors
