Zayo completes terrestrial route, launches four points-of-presence in Brazil

DigitalBridge’s communications infrastructure provider Zayo completed expansions to its connectivity infrastructure in São Paulo, including a new key terrestrial route and connectivity to four key datacenters via points-of-presence (PoPs), the company said in a statement.

The four new PoPs were established in Equinix’s SP2, SP3 and SP4 datacenters, as well as in Brazil’s B3 stock exchange datacenter.

“As Latin America's center of innovation and commerce, São Paulo has seen increased demand for connectivity from the US. To meet the growing needs of customers, Zayo is establishing diverse, high-bandwidth connectivity from its first-class North American fiber network directly into the largest economic center in the southern hemisphere,” Zayo said.

In September 2022, Zayo announced a low-latency route connecting the US and São Paulo.

In addition to the four new PoPs, the company also announced a series of investments to extend its global reach to support rapidly increasing bandwidth, including the deployment of 400G across long-haul capacity growth, and enhancements to its global IP infrastructure.

Zayo said it recently completed upgrades of its European network to be fully 400G-enabled, with plans for its tier-1 backbone in North America to be fully 400G-enabled by the end of 2024. Ciena was the optical solutions provider chosen for these upgrades.

In Q3, Zayo added nine 400G-enabled routes to its North American network, with 10 others in progress.

Zayo claims that its IP backbone makes up nearly 10% of the world’s internet capacity. It also said that it manages 96TB of core capacity and 34TB of peering capacity, and adds 1-2Tb of peering capacity every quarter.

The company reports three new long-haul route builds and two additional route overbuilds in progress, with scheduled completion by the end of 2023.

At present, its network spans over 17mn fiber miles (27.3Mkm) and 142,000 route miles.
