Brazil to support local govt PPP structuring with US$165mn fund

The Brazilian government launched a fund worth 1bn reais (US$165mn) to support local governments in structuring PPPs.

The sustainable regional infrastructure development fund (FDIRS) will support projects in states and municipalities and be integrated with federal growth acceleration program PAC, the regional development ministry said in a statement.

FDIRS will provide strategic support during the preparation and feasibility phases, including the environmental, financial, legal, and engineering areas.

The fund is managed by Brazilian asset manager firm Vinci Partners and the priority sectors are sanitation, urban infrastructure, transportation, social infrastructure (including education and healthcare), irrigation, and forests and parks.

The first PPP to be supported by the fund is an irrigation project in Jaíba, Minas Gerais state.
