Panama's Idaan unveils water supply strategy for World Youth Day
Panama's water and sewerage utility Idaan, through its regional office in Veraguas province, adopted a special strategy to guarantee potable water supply for local pipelines in preparation for the start of the dry season.
The strategy will also serve to guarantee water supply in the face of a large pilgrimage of people who are expected to attend World Youth Day, a large Catholic event that is due to take place in Panama City on January 22-27.
Some of the actions under the plan include the installation of new pumping equipment in potable water plants and wells, carrying out preventive maintenance works on pumping stations and the rehabilitation of 25 wells and water storage tanks, among others, Idaan said in a release.
The provinces where works have been carried out include La Unión, Cañacillas Abajo, Barriada Jesús Nazareno, Santa Librada, Santa Clara, Las Delicias, Forestal, Punta Delgadita, La Peña, Los Algarrobos, La Mata and La Colorada, among others.
In the days leading up to the Catholic event, when international attendees are expected to make their way through the province, Idaan staff will be monitoring the operation of supply systems.
National authorities estimate that around one million international visitors are expected to arrive in the country to attend the World Youth Day event.
