Coronel - Lota Biotrén Expansion

Description: In response to the need to improve connectivity in the Biobio region, an extension of the metropolitan suburban railway from the city of Coronel to Lota has been proposed. With the completion of the project, it is estimated that the number of passengers per year would increase by 300,000. The project would be part of a modernization and extension plan for the Biotrén announced by the president of the republic. The extension of the biotrain will have the following stations: Coronel Sur Cousiño Chiflón  Lota It should be noted that the extension to Lota is part of the actions that are already being carried out, such as the new railway bridge and the expansion of capacity of Line 2. The Biotrén expansion will extend from the city of Coronel to the city of Lota, in the province of Concepción, and its journey will take 13 minutes. The project will reduce travel times from Lota to Concepción, connecting both cities in 50 minutes, using double trains. That is, it will operate with 2 trains with 3 cars connected to offer a greater capacity of over 800 passengers.
