The initiative forms part of an overall remediation plan for the Matanza-Riachuelo basin in Buenos Aires, which considers four components: two major effluent collectors, the Dock Sud pretreatment plant and the underwater diffusor. The project is part of the Riachuelo-Matanza cleanup program that will help decontaminate the wastewater discharged into the De la Plata River. The outfall consists of two sections: Transport: This involves the construction of a tunnel under the bed of the Río de la Plata that will transport the liquids pre-treated at the plant to the diffusers that will be located more than 10 km from the coast in the waters of the Río de la Plata, ensuring adequate disposal. Diffusion: Along the last 1.5 km of the "Transport Section", diffusers will be placed in the upper part of the tunnel to achieve an intimate mixing of the pre-treated liquids with the water of the Río de la Plata to complete the treatment by dilution, ensuring the environmental quality of the river in accordance with the levels and uses established by the regulations in force.
