Description: The ethanol factory uses non-food plant matter such as sugarcane bagasse and straw to produce ethanol. Owned and operated by GranBio (100%), a wholly owned subsidiary of GranBio Investimentos, this is the first second-generation ethanol plant of its kind in the southern hemisphere. In September 2014, GranBio announced the start of production of 2G ethanol on a commercial scale at Bioflex 1, the unit located in Sao Miguel dos Campos, Alagoas. This unit has a storage and processing capacity equivalent to 400,000t/y.
