The work is part of the third and final section of the Mexico Toluca Interurban Train, which runs 17km between Mexico City, through the districts of Cuajimalpa, Santa Fe and Álvaro Obregón, and Toluca, in the state of Mexico, to complete the 58km rail link totals. The viaduct is an additional work that was not contemplated in the original design of the intercity train, and was included in the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador with a maximum execution period of 365 days.
