It should be noted that the project only corresponds to engineering and construction updates of the 7th, 8th and 9th stages of the Carén Reservoir, without extension of the useful life of the approved works, nor changes in the total flood area or in the total volume of tailings storage capacity, as well as adjustments to the closure phase. The Carén Reservoir is located inside the Hacienda Loncha, owned by Codelco, in the Estero Carén valley, 135 km southwest of the city of Santiago and 75 km south of the city of Melipilla. It corresponds to a work destined to the storage of tailings generated by the operations of Codelco's El Teniente Division, which in turn acts as a flood regulator.
