Description: The Sopladora hydro plant is part of state power generation holding company Celec and boasts installed capacity of 487MW from the Molino plant. Ecuador's government could save US$130mn a year by eliminating the need to purchase fossil fuels for running the plants. Sopladora will not have a reservoir. It will use the waters discharged from Paute Molino plant, supplied by the reservoir Amazula, which will wind their way through a network of tunnels and an interconnection chamber. The underground powerhouse will enclose three Francis type turbines.
