Cobalt Nickel

Description: The Jacaré project is located in the city of São Félix do Xingu, in Brazil and, at full production, is expected to operate in the lower half of the cost curve. Phase 1 of the project could deliver 40 ktpa of nickel, and Phase 2 could deliver another 40 ktpa with cobalt byproducts. The site is located in the western part of the Carajas region, State of Pará. It developed on a Precambrian mafic-ultramafic intrusive complex that forms a ridge from north to south. The mineralization is a product of in situ weathering of serpentinized dunites, peridotites and minor pyroxenites. Three styles of nickeliferous mineralization occur: siliceous laterite, ferruginous laterite and saprolite. The project includes the treatment of saprolite ore using a pyrometallurgical plant and the treatment of laterite ore using a hydrometallurgical plant.
