The route runs from Asuncion to the Bolivian border and is the main highway connecting the Chaco region with Paraguay's administrative and economic heart. It also provides access to the Pacific coast through Bolivia, Argentina and Chile, which makes it a key corridor for intraregional and global trade. The average traffic is about 1,500 vehicles per day, of which 50% are midsized and heavy trucks. Many segments of RN9 are reaching end-of-useful-life stage, with 45% of the area under intervention needing pavement reconstruction. This adverse situation is pushing up overall transportation costs and travel time, affecting road safety, and hindering the road's prospects to strengthen its stance as a logistics corridor that fosters integration and productivity of Paraguay's eastern strip. The project is divided into 8 lots that make up the four sections of route PY09. Lot 1 (Km 50 to Km 112) Lot 2 (km 112 to km 173) Lot 3 (Km 173 to Km 250). Lot 4 (Km 250 to Km 326) Lot 5 (Km 326 to Km 390) Lot 6 (Km 390 to Km 450) Lot 7 (km 450 to km 525) Lot 8 (accesses to Loma Plata, Filadelfia, Neuland, Line 1), and also includes improving access to the Yalve Sanga Hospital. This project will bring direct benefits for 60,000 people and indirect benefits for close to 200,000 inhabitants of the departments of Presidente Hayes and Boquerón, in addition to becoming the greatest projection of socioeconomic development for the Chaco, the country and the region. The execution and delivery period for this project is 2 years for construction and 4 years for maintenance, under the Rehabilitation and Maintenance Contract (CREMA) modality.
