Once finished, residents of the area will no longer have to spend time and money travelling to the capital or the hospital in Amatitlán to receive care. It will be a short stay prototype hospital, designed to limit the amount of time patients need to be hospitalized. The hospital is part of a public health ministry plan to strengthen the country's hospital network. The hospital will be built at km 21.5 of route CA-9 heading towards Amatitlán near the Guatel sports complex and the offices of AMSA, in Guatemala department.
