Description: Paracatu is a large-scale open pit mine located in Brazil's south-west and operated by Canadian mining company Kinross Gold. The company acquired a stake in the mine after merging with fellow miner TVX Gold in 2003 and, by the end of 2004, it had acquired the remaining 51% from multinational company Rio Tinto, to fully own the operation. Paracatu generates the most jobs in the municipality of the same name. The plant throughput is over 4.8Mt per month and during 2013 it produced more than 500,000oz of gold. It has proven and probable reserves of more than 10Moz of gold. In 2006, Kinross expanded the mine's milling facilities, increasing yearly production capacity to over 60Mt and extending the production life of the mine to 2030.
