The port would also ease pressure on the country's main port, Guayaquil, which accounts for 82% of port movements in the country and which will see its capacity to handle large vessels reach its limit in the near future. Authorities want Posorja, currently a fishing port, to become a "maritime port development hub". The port will be located in Posorja, a rural area about 120km west of the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador.
