One element involves building and operating an international airport serving Pouso Alegre and which would be known as Padre Senador José Bento Leite Ferreira de Melo airport. The airport would also handle cargo and would be built over an area of 5Mm2 close to highway BR-381. The chosen company will also operate and maintain the city's existing airport, named Prefeito Dr. Antônio de Barros Lisboa, and decommission it after the new one is operational.
