Interventions in the Chicama River involve the desilting of the tributary, the creation of longitudinal dikes, and the improvement of channeling dikes. It will benefit 26,378 citizens from the population centers of Cepeda, Capina 3 and 4 of Nepeña, Sumanique, Cartavio, Nepen, San José Bajo, Huaca Cucurripe, Alto Chiclin, Punta Moreno, Chiclin, Salinar, Pampas de Jaguey, La Botella, Moncada , Moncada Alta, Casa Grande, Roma, San Benito, La Villa and La Portada. In the Virú river, channeling and protection works will be carried out on the Carabamba, Huacapongo and Virú rivers, as well as the Seca and El Niño streams. The intervention will benefit 28,968 inhabitants, located in the population centers of Tomabal, Susanga, Huacapongo, El Niño, Vinzos, Queneto, Virú, Zaraque, San Juan, La Gloria, San Idelfonso, Puente Viru, El Carmelo, Huancaquito Bajo and Carabamba. The works will allow the reduction of the risk of overflows and floods in times of increased flow in residential and agricultural areas, as occurred during the El Niño Costero Phenomenon in 2017. Overall, the project will benefit more than 94,000 inhabitants of the regions of La Libertad and Cajamarca from flooding caused by heavy rains.
