This project was born in response to the need to decongest Route 5, the stretch between Alameda station and the capital of the Ñuble region, offering alternative transportation; and to reduce travel times to a route that has high passenger demand. With this objective, the initiative considers the purchase of 6 new state-of-the-art and bimodal trains (which can operate both with electric power -through catenary as the current services- and, in case of emergency, they can operate with diesel traction system). In addition to various investments in infrastructure, including tracks and stations, and a new operating model aimed at improving the quality of service received by users. The new service also includes express services, with stops in San Bernardo, Rancagua and Talca, which will connect Chillán and Santiago in 3 hours and 40 minutes. The project includes 12 stations: Santiago San Bernardo Rancagua San Fernando Curicó Molina Talca San Javier Linares Parral San Carlos Chillán It will have 12 frequencies, six in each direction throughout the day. The initiative will benefit the Metropolitan, O'Higgins, Maule and Ñuble regions.
