Studies, Projects and Plans for the Belém River Basin and PDD Update

Description: Transfer of federal funds to develop plans, studies and projects for the Belém River basin and update the drainage master plan for water resource management in the city of Curitiba. The target audience is the population of the Belém River basin, estimated at 500,000 inhabitants. Minimizing the flooding problem will have positive social and environmental impacts, given the temporary storage of rainwater and the delay in runoff in rivers and streams, reducing the problem of erosion and vector transmission caused by floods. Furthermore, the drainage master plan will benefit the entire population of Curitiba, approximately 2 million inhabitants. Possible mismatches between urban growth and the capacity to invest public resources in infrastructure have resulted in insufficient or non-existent drainage devices, causing localized flooding and erosion processes. In addition, soil impermeability has favored rapid runoff over the surface of the land, causing flooding points, an environment favorable to the proliferation of vectors and health problems. The final product will be a set of projects and plans related to rainwater management, which provide solutions to minimize flooding in the city of Curitiba and which can be transformed into works/interventions to promote improvements in drainage conditions and permeability, using whenever possible the concepts of sustainable urban drainage and nature-based solutions.
