Coal-fired power generation will account for 40.5% of electricity production in the Dominican Republic through June 2021, according to grid coordinator OC’s latest medium-term operation report.
On Wednesday, state power holding company CDEEE inaugurated the 750MW Punta Catalina coal-fired plant (pictured) which began dispatching last year.
The balance of energy will come from natural gas (37.5%), oil (7%), hydro (6.3%), wind (6%), solar (1.4%) and biomass (1.2%), adds the report, which highlights the conversion to gas at CESPM, Quisqueya I and Quisqueya II.
