The US Virgin Islands’ Water and Power Authority (WAPA) signed a US$2.7mn contract with Wartsila to install two, 4MW standby units on St John, including up to 2MW of battery storage.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries issued a call for consultants with waste to energy experience ahead of a planned facility at the Beetham landfill.

Costa Rica's public services regulator Aresep published a report on power interruptions in 2018 which reveals that the average national interruption last year was 8.8 hours compared with 15.1 hours in 2017, and that users experienced an average of 7.6 interruptions in 2018 versus 10.4 the year before.

The watchdog highlighted that of 57,750 faults last year, 63% were due to external factors (environmental, human activity and the influence of other networks), 11% to internal factors (network infrastructure failures) and 27% were not identified.

And Guatemala’s power regulator CNEE approved reference terms in order for distributor EEGSA to draft bidding rules to supply energy for a period which could run from February 1, 2020 to April 30, 2024 or 2025.

In April, EEGSA awarded state power company INDE a contract to supply 63MW of hydro capacity from May 1 through April 30, 2020.
